The Mother London-created ad, which debuts as a 60-second spot on Sunday 9 November during ‘Downton Abbey’ on ITV, encourages viewers to make their loved ones feel special by buying them a gift from Boots.
Supporting activity will be carried across multiple platforms using the hashtag #SpecialBecause.
The TV ad shows the lights going out at midnight on Christmas Day, with festivities apparently coming to an end.
But in one household, a sleepy husband wakes up on a sofa, an uncle is seen walking his dog back and a daughter races home from her gap year.
The reveal is that it is a family coming together to surprise their wife, sister and mother – a nurse returning home from her shift.
The ad ends with the line, 'because she’s special'. The commercial is running in a variety of formats, including a full two-minute version that will appear exclusively on social channels.
In addition to the TV work, marketing activity will span cinema, out-of-home, print, digital, direct marketing and PR. Social media activity from Boots’ Twitter and Facebook pages will unveil the TV ad to followers ahead of this weekend’s premiere.
Andy Ferguson, Boots UK’s director of marketing, said: "We know that for our customers giving the perfect Christmas gift offers much more than just the present itself, it is a way for them to show how much they care.
"This Christmas we want to inspire our customers to celebrate the special people in their lives, not just by giving the perfect gift from Boots, but by sharing the reasons they matter for the whole nation to see."
