The British Museum of Food will occupy the space above its Alcoholic Architecture bar for three months, and the team is currently searching for a permanent location.

Sam Bompas, co-founder of Bompas & Parr, told Event: "It is a temporary space to sound out what people would like to see.

"It will be available to hire for corporate events and Christmas parties, as is our bar, Alcoholic Architecture."

He added a lot of produce for events is sourced from Borough Market, and that the museum will host a programme of talks and lectures, with exact details yet to be confirmed.

The museum will look at the many facets of food – from its history and evolution to the science, sociology and art of food.

It will seek to get Londoners excited about food, and encourage them to think about how they choose to fuel their bodies, with a particular focus on health and nutrition.

A series of changing exhibits will occupy the space, with the first, comprising five exhibitions, to reflect the museum’s ‘From Field to Table, Mouth… and Beyond’ motto.

These include 'Be the bolus', which will see visitors embark on a cinematic journey to see how food travels through the body, a tropical walk-through experience coined The Butterfly Effect, and Chocophonica, a room filled with chcooclate, which will transport guests to different chocolate worlds through sound.

The museum has been set up as a charity, and as such, Bompas & Parr is currently seeking financial support to continue to operate and secure a permanent location.

In the long term, the company hopes to see the museum become a globally recognised national resource for all things food, covering everything from experimentation and innovation to government policies around food.

Bompas & Parr's bioluminescent  as part of London's Merge Festival, as is its at Borough Market.
