
AV company Blitz was so impressed by the calibre of talent this year that it offered two jobs. Mike Hughes, from Cardiff Metropolitan University, and James Boardman, studying at Leeds Metropolitan University will be joining Blitz later this year.
Munir Samji, chairman of Blitz, said he noticed both candidates straight away. "The guys have exactly the right qualities we are looking for. They will be our company’s 100th and 101th employees, and we’re hugely excited for them to start."
George P Johnson offered a job to Gabrielle Khaled, who cried happy tears when she found out she had won.
She said the job was a "dream come true" and she couldn’t wait to start proving herself at the agency.
The 12 finalists were put through their paces at International Confex this week, where they completed a series of challenges including speed interviews, walking over the roof of the O2, GPS trails, ticket selling and making a short animation film.
Yesterday (21 March) the final five were selected to present to a panel of judges in the Live Lounge at Confex. Each candidate had to speak for five minutes on something they were passionate about, and for a further five on new and emerging technology in the event industry.
Run by ESP Recruitment and Event magazine, in association with Bluehat and UBM, the Apprentice-style competition aims to bring the next generation of talent into the event industry.
