The Dutch company is 99.47% owned by Spanish telecoms firm Telefonica. It will seek a listing of 30% of the company, which has seen its worth soar as 'Big Brother' has taken off around the world.

On Friday, Channel 4 broadcast the final of the UK's 'Big Brother', which has proved a bigger hit than previous years. In the final week, the programme managed to record more than 8.5m votes.

An estimated 10m viewers tuned in on Friday to watch Kate Lawler, an IT worker from Kent, win the £70,000 prize.

Earlier this year, Endemol signed a lucrative four-year deal with Channel 4.

Endemol, which will co-produce the BBC's upcoming talent-spotting series 'Fame Academy', registered £234m in revenue in the first half of 2002, a decline of 17% from last year.

Telefonica chairman Cesar Alierta told analysts last week he did not think it necessary for it to retain a majority stake in its media concerns.
