Trevor Beattie, chairman and creative director of TBWA\London, is to chair the judging panel that will choose the ads that make the programme. 'The Best Ads Never Seen' will also feature interviews with those who have created the commercials, as well as the judges.
It is the second Best Ads Never Seen initiative, with several of the judges on this year's panel winners the first time around, 11 years ago. The advertising industry is being invited to submit ads that have never been screened on television before, whether because they were banned by regulators or scrapped before airing.
Sitting with Beattie on the judging panel are Dave Alberts, chairman of Grey Worldwide, Damon Collins, creative director of Lowe, and Luke White, creative director of McCann-Erickson. On the client side will be Alison Copus, marketing director of Virgin Atlantic, while Nick Lewin, a director at Cowboy Films, will step up for the production side.
Winners from the first time around on this year's panel are Paul Burch, an art director at Ogilvy & Mather, Patrick Collister, executive creative director of Creative Matters, and Nigel Rose, board director at Euro RSCG London.
Marcel Knobil, founder of Best Ads Never Seen, said: "This initiative provides the opportunity for exceptional work to gain the recognition it deserves. The Five programme and awards event will ensure that brilliant work will gain the limelight it merits."
The project is an antidote to advertising competitions such as Cannes, which have been dogged by the problem of fake advertising -- ads that have been made specifically to win awards, but never actually ran in paid-for media.
Entry is open to any commercial that has been presented to a client over the past 15 years, but never ran. There is no charge for entry, and the deadline is May 7, 2004.

You can view the competition's winners from 11 years ago, two spots for the now defunct Windolene brand on Brand Republic.
The first spot features a girl combing her hair as a appears to crawl up her back. The second is the spoof.
