One thousand tons of sand will be shovelled on Stratford Waterfront, near Westfield and the Olympic Stadium, to create east London’s answer to Brazil’s famous Copacabana beach.

The beach will open daily at 10am from 23 July to 4 September. Among the attractions will be a kids paddling pool, funfair rides, two beach bars and a host of sporting events and activities.

From 6-21 August the site will become an Official Team GB FanZone, where fans can watch live coverage of the Games on the big screen and cheer their favourite Team GB stars.

There will also be live entertainment, DJs, themed events and competitions to create a Rio carnival atmosphere.
