BBC Worldwide sells Clotheshow Live stake

LONDON - BBC Worldwide has sold its share of the Clotheshow Live, the consumer retail fashion show, to Haymarket Exhibitions, its partner in the event.

Clotheshow Live has been running for 14 years and was born out of the now-defunct BBC TV show 'The Clothes Show'.

It covers 55,000m2 of floorspace at the NEC each December and attracts more than 170,000 visitors to each event. Visitors spend £15.6m with the show's 350 exhibitors over six days.

Peter Phippen, managing director of BBC Magazines, said: "In the absence of a BBC Clothes Show TV programme, we feel it is appropriate for our partners at Haymarket to have complete freedom to take the show forward and set new goals."

Over the years, the show's exhibitors have included Paco Rabanne, Warehouse, Ted Baker and Adidas. It has featured guests such as the TV show's original presenter Jeff Banks and Selina Scott. Other celebrities to appear at the show have included The Spice Girls, Kylie Minogue, Dermot O'Leary and Vernon Kaye.

Peter Osborne, chairman of Haymarket Exhibitions, said: "Clotheshow Live rates among the top consumer events in the UK and while we recognise all the BBC has done, the opportunity to set new horizons and work with new media partners makes this a particularly exciting time for the show."

Haymarket Exhibitions is part of Haymarket Publishing, parent of Brand Republic.
