She will be responsible for developing the bulk of BBC Worldwide's so-called "passion sites", including RadioTimes.com, BBCGoodFood.com and GardenersWorld.com.
Her remit will not include responsibility for TopGear.com, which will be handled by digital publisher Paul Owen, or Lonely Planet, which sits separately within Worldwide's Global Brands division.
White's move follows a decision by the BBC's commercial arm to consolidate digital operations previously split between BBC Magazines and its digital delivery team.
The move effectively disbands the digital delivery team, created in 2007 as a central online resource for BBC Worldwide. While the 30-strong unit will retain close ties to its respective editorial and brand teams, it now sits alongside BBC.com and the content syndication team.
A BBC spokesman said the restructure signals a new set of profit-driven goals for the passion sites, being led by digital director Claude London.
White became BBC Worldwide's first digital launch director when she joined in 2007.
