BBC takes iPlayer to Virgin Media

LONDON - BBC iPlayer has today been launched on Virgin Media's cable TV platform, following its recent launch on the Nintendo Wii gaming platform.

About 1.5 million Virgin Media TV customers now use its VoD service on a monthly basis. This includes programmes from the BBC, Channel 4 and pay TV channels Bravo and Living.

BBC iPlayer on Virgin Media allows viewers to catch-up on 350 hours of BBC TV programmes from the past seven days. Virgin Media is the first TV platform in the UK to host the iPlayer service.

The BBC said it was currently working on plans to launch the iPlayer on other gaming and mobile devices, including Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s X-Box.

A spokeswoman said: "These are on our roadmap, although there are no firm launch dates yet."
