LONDON - The BBC is proposing to launch an on-demand, catch-up service for UK radio.

Tim Davie, former BBC marketer and now the head of audio and music, wants to introduce a service open to all broadcasters so that radio programmes can be downloaded from one place.

Instead of consumers having to seek out missed radio programmes they would be able to find them in one place. BBC programmes would sit side by side with commercial programmes.

The service would be similar to the iPlayer and aims to align the accessibility of TV with that of radio. The proposals would need approval from the BBC Trust.

The move could boost the popularity of digital radio as the Government make decisions around the Digital Britain report.
