BBC One's Mistresses pips Holloway with 4.1m viewers

LONDON - BBC One drama 'Mistresses' pulled in 4.1m viewers for the final episode of the current series, putting it ahead of ITV1 prison documentary 'Holloway', according to unofficial overnight figures.

'Mistresses', starring Sarah Parish and Orla Brady, bowed out with a 17.5% share of the 9pm-10pm audience. The final episode of the series, up 300,000 viewers on the previous week, saw Katie dealing with the fallout from her affair with Jack, and Trudi realising her true feelings for Richard.

It beat the second part of ITV1 documentary 'Holloway', this week focusing on women whose lives had been so bad they did not want to leave the prison at the end of their sentences, which attracted 3.9m viewers and a 16.7% share of the audience.

Five's 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' drama series, starring Laurence Fishburne, netted 3.3m viewers and a 13.9% share of the audience.

The final part of Heston Blumenthal's Channel 4 series, featuring the chef cooking up a Roman feast, drew 2.2m viewers and a 9.1% share of the audience. Including Channel 4+1 figures it reached 2.4m viewers.

This week's delights included pork scratchings made from pig's nipples, calf's brain custard and ejaculating puddings.

BBC Two's Horizon documentary 'Why Can't We Predict Earthquakes?', asking why science has so far fallen short of answering this question, scored 2.1m viewers and an 8.9% share of the audience.
