In the programme, the magazine, which has run headlines such as  ‘Blinded by a sausage’, ‘Paralysed by a worm’ and 'An orgasm made my brain explode’, has its team of reporters followed on their story assignments.

The documentary, called 'Secrets for sale' and airing on 2 March at 10.35pm, examines the real-life magazine market and the quirky, harrowing and often embarrassing stories it is built on.

Real People editor Samm Taylor said: "Secrets for sale is a fantastic opportunity for Real People tell its side of the story. There is a real cathartic value for many contributors in selling their stories, with the added benefit that talking about personal tragedies can often help raise awareness of a particular issue."

Real People magazine sold 216,038 copies in the six months to the end of 2009, a year-on-year rise of 7%, according to the latest set of ABC figures.
