The BBC's video and live web streaming service has shot to the top of the Google rankings, exactly one year after its official launch last Christmas.
As the year-end approaches, studying the aggregation of the billions of search queries people type into Google arguably offers a glimpse into the zeitgeist.
The iPlayer received the approval of the BBC Trust on 30 April 2007, and an open beta was launched at midnight on 27 July 2007.
Also included in the this year's UK zeitgeist is YouTube, Yahoo Mail, the Large Hadron Collider and Obama.
Sitting alongside the fastest-growing terms, Google also lists the UK’s most popular websites, where the BBC is only beaten by the social networking site Facebook. The video-sharing site YouTube is the third most visited site, ahead of online auction house eBay.
Globally, America's former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin tops the list of fastest rising searches, ahead of Beijing 2008, Facebook, Tuenti and the late actor Heath Ledger.
While it is impossible to determine whether America's self-professed "bulldog with lipstick" heads the rankings due to her popularity or relatively unknown status before being catapulted onto the world stage, the listings provide a barometer of consumer behaviour across 34 countries tracked by Google.
It is the seventh year of Google's zeitgeist, all search queries are studied anonymously.
