BBC adds to pre-school titles range with Hi-5 Magazine

LONDON – BBC Magazines is expanding its pre-school portfolio with Hi-5 Magazine after the success of the Australian show of the same name on Five's Milkshake strand.

The magazine says it will offer a fresh approach to activity with 24 pages of songs, games and musical instuments to make and dance routines to follow.

Hi-5 Magazine will also be the first pre-school magazine to carry an interactive music CD, which will be cover-mounted with every issue.

BBC Magazines is part of the corporation's commercial arm BBC Worldwide.

The corporation's pre-school portfolio includes Bob the Builder, Teletubbies, Fimbles and Tweenies.

The BBC is also revamping its pre-school, educational title My First Magazine, piblished in association with Dorling Kindersley, to incorporate the government's Early Learning Goals in greater detail by introducing children to literacy, mathematics and interactive activities. It will also have a smaller 250x185mm format to make it easier for younger children to read.

BBC Worldwide has come under intense speculation recently as the corporation has reportedly entered into discussions with media giants including Time Warner and Disney about the possibility of selling parts of the £2bn division.

BBC Worldwide owns more than 40 magazines including the Radio Times and Good Homes, 12 TV channels including BBC America, BBC Prime and five UKTV channels it co-owns with Flextech Telewest. It also owns publishing arm BBC Books and BBC Videos, as well as online media through Beeb.net
