BBC "A Perfect Planet" by BBC Creative

BBC damaged its own billboards in a striking campaign showcasing the effects of global warming.

Outdoor posters, which promoted Sir David Attenborough's A Perfect Planet, initially featured monkeys and other wildlife but were "hijacked" to incorporate apocalyptic imagery of forest fires, water pollution and the effects of drought (with real fire and environmentally-friendly vapour smoke thrown in for good measure). Each ad reads "Perfect planet, but for how long?"

Helen Rhodes, executive creative director at BBC Creative, said: "A Perfect Planet explains how our living planet operates, but also sends a stark warning of the damage we are doing and the consequences we face if we don’t act now. Our campaign is designed to support that sentiment, using the shock tactic of defacing our own poster to communicate the urgency of the crisis we face."

The reworked appeared throughout central Manchester last Sunday night (31 January), and were created by Rachel Miles and Michael Tsim.

In 2019, BBC created a "breathing" billboard to promote His Dark Materials.
