BBC 1Xtra partners with Liverpool International Music Festival

BBC 1Xtra has teamed up with Liverpool International Music Festival's LIMF Academy to create a bespoke outreach programme in the city.

BBC 1Xtra: live sessions in Liverpool

The events, which kicked off last week (22 September), will run until 7 October, offering 16-24 year olds in Liverpool the opportunity to learn all about the music industry from some of the biggest names in the business.

Sessions will include how to put on your own live music event, hosted by 1Xtra’s Jamz Supernova, with BBC Radio 1Xtra staff and Liverpool-based promoters on the panel, and a 1Xtra Playlist Meeting with 1Xtra Music Producers giving young people an insight into how tracks get to be played on a radio station, and how they make it on to the BBC 1Xtra Playlist.

A masterclass will also focus on everything you need to know about the music industry from getting paid to getting heard, co-hosted by BBC Radio 1Xtra's A.Dot and BBC Radio Merseyside’s Dave Monks, while a BBC Get Inspired Women in Sport, hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Adele Roberts, will feature some of Great Britain’s most successful sportswomen.

On 30 September, Radio 1Xtra is also teaming up with BBC Music Introducing and LIMF Academy for a night of home-grown Merseyside talent. Jamz Supernova and Dave Monks will be co-hosting an evening of Liverpool’s best undiscovered, under the radar musical talent including an open mic session.

The partnership also included a 1Xtra street studio session held at Liverpool One shopping centre at the weekend (24 September) where budding MCs and artists attended and recorded some bars with the chance to get their performance heard on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

Yasmin Evans, BBC 1Xtra DJ, says: "1Xtra Live is the station’s biggest event of the year and to be able to work with so many ambitious and enthusiastic young people in Liverpool in the lead up to the event is a massive bonus. I can’t wait to see what talent we come across."

Louise Kattenhorn, Radio 1 and 1Xtra editor added: "Our presenters and outreach team are really looking forward to taking part in this programme of  inspiring events – we love sharing our skills and knowledge with enthusiastic young people and in return we learn a lot from them."
