The new title, which has been developed by Bauer’s specialist division, aims to build on the success of the publisher’s Trail magazine and its sister title, Trail Running.
Matt Swaine, editor of Trail and Trail Running, acted as an editorial consultant on the new magazine, alongside Trail art director Mark Tucker.
Jonathan Manning will edit the new magazine. He was previously editor of Bauer’s Country Walking magazine, where deputy editor Nick Hallissey will take his place as acting editor.
Outdoor Fitness, which launches on the newsstands on 6 July priced £3.99, aims to target consumers interested in triathlons, sea kayaking, open-water swims, mountain climbing and similar activities.
The launch is supported by advertisers including Wiggle, Kinetica energy drinks and pharmaceuticals brand Sanofi.
Bauer will now start on an extensive marketing campaign though its radio stations and magazines, including FHM, Empire, Country Walking, Trail, and Mojo.
Rob Munro Hall, group managing director of Bauer Media's specialist division, said: "We have built on our expertise gained from Trail and Trail Running, and are perfectly placed to be the first to market with this new magazine, which will serve a growing audience.
"Outdoor Fitness also provides both lifestyle and specialist advertisers with a unique opportunity to reach highly active and affluent, 25- to 55-year-olds."
The publisher’s launch of a new fitness title reinforces the growing popularity of health-focused magazines.
Figures detailed this week by the National Readership Survey highlight increasing interest in health titles, particularly in the men’s sector, where traditional lads' mags are suffering large drops in circulation.
The UK's embattled lads' mags, FHM, Nuts and Zoo, jointly lost almost three-quarters of a million readers in the 12 months to March, according to new data from the NRS.
In contrast to these losses, Natmag-Rodale’s market-leading magazine Men's Health increased its readership by 13% year on year, to an average of 1,216,000 in the 12-month period.
