Bardega, formerly joint head of MediaCom Beyond Advertising at MediaCom, had most recently been splitting his time between MediaCom and mobile creative agency Ubinow, where he was a founding partner.
He will now be charged with heading MediaCom's mobile offering, including strategy development, creative and site build, display buying, search buying, app building and technical consultancy.
Bardega will also be responsible for head of innovation duties, a role formerly covered by outgoing head of futures, Rhys McLachlan who is leaving to join Videology.
As part of the innovation remit Bardega has been tasked with creating a hub within the agency for ongoing innovation, developing new models, new services and new products.
Bardega said: "My new job is about innovation in the broadest possible sense.
"Innovation for our clients, innovation in the way we do things at MediaCom, innovation in the way we use technology, innovation in the way we partner with others, and innovation in the way we define exactly what MediaCom does.
"There's already a great deal of innovative thinking throughout the network, and plugging into our ideas from around the globe will be part of my remit."
Karen Blackett, chief executive of MediaCom, said: "This is an exciting appointment for us, because as well as placing a great operator at the head of the increasingly important Mobile division, it also gives us an impetus to drive innovation throughout the agency."
