Axon also produces titles for Hildon and the University of Luton, and specialises in the contract publishing and catalogue markets.
Johnston, who will be working with editorial director Paul Keers, is responsible for managing the editorial section at Axon.
Johnston has been freelance since she left Restaurant in 2005, working across customer communications such as Toyota, Lloyds TSB, British Gas and the CIM. Most recently, she has been working on Hotspur, the new magazine for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
She has also had experience in creating multi-channel communications, editing print and online publications for Microsoft, Alliance & Leicester, Miller Homes and Goldfish credit cards.
