The news comes five days after Media Week first reported the closure of children’s football magazine Kick. Phone lines at London-based Attic Brand Media have not been answered since 2 November.
It is understood that 17 members of staff in the UK have entered into consultation and their current roles are not expected to remain.
According to a source, four titles – Merlin, Kick, Kick Extra and Kraze Club - are at risk of closure, whilst National Geographic Kids will continue to be published under a new company.
No one from Attic Media was officially available to comment.
US title National Geographic Kids was brought to the UK in 2006, when the publisher was known as Attic Media Network
Since 1989, the Attic Brand Media team has launched some of the UK's popular teen, kids and TV magazines, including TV Hits, B and All About Soap.
Other launches include Sugar, the UK's first "baby glossy" for teenage girls, and Inside Soap, the UK's first dedicated soap title.
Attic first launched in Australia in 1988, and built up a portfolio that included Girlfriend, TV Hits, Hot Metal, and women’s weeklies That’s Life! and For Me.
It is not known at this stage if the company's operations in Germany and Australia have been affected (directly).
