Aston Martin named coolest brand at CoolBrands Awards

LONDON - Aston Martin has been named the UK's coolest brand, followed by Alexander McQueen clothing and the iPod, at the CoolBrands Awards, part of the Superbrands organisation.

Other brands to feature in the top 20 include and , which sit alongside longer established brands Bang & Olufsen, Bentley and Selfridges.

Agent Provocateur clothing, which recently featured Kate Moss in an advertising campaign, was fourth, while Jimmy Choo footwear was ninth.

The Tate Modern is number eight for leisure and entertainment and the Glastonbury Festival made it into the ranks at number 12 for the leisure and communication.

Magazine Dazed & Confused was the top-scoring media brand and came in at number 20 overall. Other high scoring media brands included magazine Vogue, TV channel E4, The Guardian and radio station Xfm.

The results were decided from an expert and consumer vote. The CoolBrands Council, which includes BBC Radio 1 DJ Trevor Nelson and designer Ben Di Lisi, voted on 1,200 brands, producing a list of 650 top scoring brands.

Then 1,725 consumers gave their opinions in an online election managed by research agency YouGov. The winners were announced at the CoolBrands awards last night.

Ralph Ardill, CEO of The Brand Experience Consultancy, said: "The 2006/2007 CoolBrands Top 20 is a masterclass in what it takes to be cool. From elusive super-cars and everyday chocolate bars to virtual communities, fashion trailblazers and a few of our most treasured national institutions."
