As well as being named coolest celebrity, Flintoff's heroics, alongside the rest of the England cricket team in winning the Ashes over the summer, was named the coolest moment of the year in the public survey published by brand authority Superbrands.
Even though he was beaten into second place in the list of coolest celebrities, Beckham's style factor has improved over the year -- he only managed fifth place last year. During 2004, Beckham was plagued by allegations of infidelity, which he denied, and a dip in form when playing for the England football team.
Last year's second-placed coolest celebrity Brad Pitt came in at fifth, with his girlfriend Angelina Jolie a new entry in the top five by taking fourth place. Sienna Miller is named the third coolest celebrity, which is a bittersweet revenge over her on/off/on lover Jude Law, who came fourth last year, but has now lost his top five status after admitting to having an affair with his children's former nanny and three-in-a-bed romps with Kate Moss and his ex-wife Sadie Frost.
Last year's least cool celebrity Jordan will be disappointed to find she retains her top spot, with husband Peter Andre rising from fifth to third in the list that no celebrity wants to be part of.
The public is clearly just as unimpressed with the activities of Kate Moss and Pete Doherty, with the couple coming in at second and fourth in the list of least cool celebrities.
Elsewhere in the survey among the coolest brands are Stella Artois, Coca-Cola, Diesel, Bliss, Audi, Sony PlayStation, Wagamama and O2.
Considered uncool are rural living, smoking, drug taking, celebrity diets and plastic surgery.
To coincide with the results, Superbrands has set up a Cool Brandleaders Council made up of representatives of brands mentioned as well as style experts to analyse the results.
Stephen Cheliotis, chairman of the council, said: "The essence of cool is a subject that is debated in every pub and every boardroom around the country as individuals and companies strive to achieve the 'x factor' that makes them stand out from the crowd."
