ASA rules pro-Heathrow ad 'misleading'

LONDON - The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled a press ad by a pro-Heathrow expansion group, Future Heathrow, as 'misleading'.

The ad, which appeared in regional press in January 2009, claimed ‘there will never be a dirty, noisy third runway at Heathrow', which the ASA ruled should not have been presented as an ‘absolute fact'.

The ASA also chastised Future Heathrow for its claim that a third runway would not go ahead ‘unless local air quality meets stringent EU standards on concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2)'.

Future Heathrow is a coalition of business and trades unions which support the expansion of Heathrow, including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and BAA.
