Artsworld, the arts channel backed by Guardian Media Group and
BSkyB, has hired WCRS to handle the creative work for its autumn launch
on SkyDigital. The task is believed to be worth pounds 1.5m.
The service is also hunting a media agency, but it is not clear whether
a decision has yet been made.
The channel will offer a broad mix of programming, from jazz, films and
Broadway shows to interior design and architecture, with a mixture of
acquired and original programming.
It is likely to launch as a premium subscription channel priced at
pounds 5.99 a month. Ad spots and sponsorship opportunities will be
available on both the main channel and its web portal,
ArtsWorld.com.
The service will transmit on SkyDigital from 6pm to midnight, with
repeats the following day from 12pm to 6pm.
Guardian Media Group and BSkyB are thought to have invested pounds 3m
each in the channel for a 20% stake. The service is backed by
high-profile names including former Royal Opera House chief and Channel
4 chief Sir Jeremy Isaacs, who is chairman of the channel, and former
Channel 5 director John Hambley, who is chief executive.
