Arresting ad for The Bill chosen as favourite for July

LONDON - Bartle Bogle Hegarty's dramatic ad campaign for ITV1's 'The Bill' has been chosen as the best newspaper ad of the month.

The ad, created by Adam Tucker, was awarded the July Anna against competition for the likes of Eurostar, by Fallon, lastminute.com, by Karmarama, and Lacoste. It shows a typical scene from 'The Bill', with a criminal lashing out at police.

Gerry Moira, who is director of creativity at Euro RSCG and judge of the Annas, said: "Like the red squirrel, British cop shows are on the run from their more muscular, powerful American counterparts. ITV put a bit of steel into 'The Bill's' backbone with this arresting tableau vivant."

The ads nominated for July join a list of 46 to be in the running for the annual Annas, which carry a total prize fund of £65,000.

The nomination brings BBH level pegging with Mother and DDB, which each have four. Wieden & Kennedy is in the lead with five nominations.
