Apple packages up new Depeche Mode music with iTunes Pass

LONDON - Apple's iTunes has teamed up with record label EMI and electro-rockers Depeche Mode to launch the new iTunes Pass programme, which gives music fans privileged access to singles, remixes and video from artists over a set period of time.

The first iTunes Pass has been launched today ahead of Depeche Mode's newest album 'Sounds of the Universe' which won't be released until April 20.

The iTunes pass must be purchased beforehand for the price of $18.99.

Fans signing up will receive the first single from the album and a remix of another track instantly, and will be notified via email when other material is available to them over the next 15 weeks, including the album on its release date.

Apple said the purchase price of the iTunes Pass will not exceed the fair market value of the individual items offered.

Ronn Werre, president of music services for EMI, said: "We think it's a great new platform that will change the way artists engage with their audiences and also a powerful new way for us to build value for our artists' music.

"And with iTunes Pass, Depeche Mode are once again demonstrating that they are true trailblazers and innovators when it comes to creating amazing music and connecting with their fans."

Apple has not said whether future iTunes Passes for other artists will be available.
