LONDON - The Association of Online Publishers has named two co-chairs, from The Telegraph and The Economist, to replace outgoing chairman Simon Waldman.

Speaking at the AOP’s annual conference in London, Waldman, group director of digital strategy and development at Guardian Media Group, passed the association’s most senior role to both Alison Reay, digital media director at Telegraph Media Group, and Mike Seery, chief information officer at The Economist.

It is the first time the chairmanship of the association, which represents more than 160 digital publishing companies, has been shared. Reay and Seery will serve one year each, with an overlapping six months.

Waldman steps down after two years at the helm. He assumed the role from Haymarket’s Bill Murray, who chaired the AOP for four years from its inception in 2002.

Today’s joint appointments come as the AOP continues to hunt for a successor to director Ruth Brownlee, who announced she was stepping down from her position last month due to family commitments.
