AOL Time Warner names Isaacson as CNN chief

LONDON - AOL Time Warner has appointed Walter Isaacson, the former editorial director of Time Inc, as chairman and chief executive officer of the CNN News Group.

Isaacson will be responsible for CNN US, CNN Headline News, CNN International, CNNfn, CNN SI and CNN en Espanol. He will also oversee 10 other cable and satellite television networks, three private place-based networks, two radio networks and 12 websites.



Isaacson has been with Time Inc for 23 years and has distinguished himself as "one of the world's most perceptive, dedicated and respected journalists", according to AOL Time Warner's CEO Gerald Levin.



After joining Time in 1978 as a national affairs writer in New York, Isaacson moved to Washington as a political correspondent covering the presidential campaigns of Ronald Reagan and Ted Kennedy. He later moved back to New York and became the magazine's Nation editor and then assistant managing editor.



In 1993, he was named editor of new media for Time Inc, where he helped develop the company's interactive television, cable and online services. He became managing editor of Time in 1995.
