AOL Broadband signs as MOBO Awards official partner

LONDON - AOL Broadband has signed up as the official online media partner for the UK urban music awards, the MOBOs, which will feature performances from Missy Elliot and Ms Dynamite.

AOL Broadband will exclusively stream the awards, which take place at the Royal Albert Hall on Thursday, to its members before the ceremony is publicly broadcast on Channel 4's 'T4' on Sunday. The ISP is also sponsoring the UK Act of the Year category.

The MOBO Awards have become a key date in the UK music calendar and feature urban or music of black origin from around the world.

AOL Broadband's association with the UK Act of the Year award will ensure a brand mention by the presenter and an on-screen credit, as well as branding in the official MasterCard MOBO Awards 2003 magazine.

Executive director of music for AOL UK and AOL Europe Blair Schooff said: "Music content is a primary motivator for broadband users. We are already seeing enormous interest in AOL Music, with large numbers of members logging on for live sessions and interviews with their favourite artists."

The online partnership with this year's MOBO Awards underlines AOL's commitment to bringing great music content to its members. The AOL Music Channel, which launched earlier this year, already enables members to enjoy exclusive music tracks, concerts, sessions, interviews and videos, and to enter exciting competitions.

Kanya King, CEO and founder of the MOBO Awards, said: "This partnership gives thousands of AOL member music fans the opportunity to watch the event as if they were there and part of the action. With performances from artists including Black Eye Peas, Mis-teeq and a very special Lifetime Achievement guest, this year's awards promises to be a spectacular night celebrating the best in urban music."
