The hedgehogs are the target of a proposed cull by Scottish Natural Heritage, which says the animals eat the eggs of ground-nesting birds.
The consortium, involving charities such as Advocates for Animals, the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, the Mammal Society and St Tiggywinkle's Wildlife Hospital, disagree with the cull and are using a mailing to explain to residents of the islands that there is an alternative.
Nottingham-based marketing services firm Ebiquita has provided data of residents for the mailing.
Andy Taylor, marketing and communications director at Ebiquita, said: "It's one of our most unusual requests ever and it has had to be turned round very quickly indeed. But we do believe it's important that residents of the islands get the opinion of those opposed to the cull, as well as those in favour of it."
The mailing will try to convince residents of the islands that the animals should not be killed, but relocated to the mainland and released in specially selected sites.
The appeal is being supported by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), which has donated 拢5,000 to the rescue mission.
