AMD rolls out $50m global ad campaign

NEW YORK - AMD, the world's second largest microchip maker, is trying to steal a march on its rival Intel with a $50m (拢32m) advertising campaign, the biggest in its 33-year history.

The campaign will be based around the slogan "AMD me" and was created by McCann-Erickson San Francisco, part of the Interpublic Group of Companies.

The global campaign will launch today in the US and will roll out in Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa on September 23. It will run in key markets until the end of next year.

Rob Herb, chief sales and marketing officer at AMD, said: "The 'AMD me' campaign is an excellent expression of our commitment as a business to build deep relationships with customers, and address the real-world needs of the global marketplace."

The integrated print and online campaign begins with launch ads appearing in today's issue of The Wall Street Journal, and the September 23 issue of Business Week. The campaign will also be featured in the print and online versions of major business, technology and IT trade media.

Arch rival Intel, the world's biggest maker of microchips, is also expected to unveil plans for new advertising and for a new chip today.
