Advanced Micro Devices, the microprocessing system manufacturer, is
holding a global review of its $50 million business.
The systems giant has shortlisted McCann-Erickson, Leo Burnett and Young
& Rubicam for the account, having initially approached six global
networks including Lowe & Partners, D'Arcy and DDB.
The pitch will take place in the last week of February at AMD's
headquarters in Sunnyvale, California.
The pitch is being run out of the US and the successful network's London
office will be responsible for running the pan-European account.
Although there has been no announcement of a media review, pitching
agencies were asked to answer media questions, prompting speculation
that there may be a review in the future.
AMD is the world's second-largest microprocessor manufacturer. However,
it is less well known than the market leader and rival chipmaker,
Intel.
Previously the account had been handled by Interpublic's Hill Holliday
Connors Cosmopulos, with Publicis handling the European business.
The review has been called by AMP in a bid to build its brand
credentials to compete with its rival, and enhance AMD PC processor
brand awareness among professional and consumer PC users.
