LONDON (Brand Republic) - Online retailer Amazon is poised to announce that it has reached the 3m customer landmark in the UK, just two-and-a-half years after its UK launch.
The company said the rate of customer acquisition has increased sharply. In a Financial Times report, managing director Steve Frazier said it took 15 months to reach 1m customers and another eight months to reach 2m, but only another six months to hit the 3m mark.
The UK and Germany account for the biggest proportion of Amazon鈥檚 $384m (£270.33m) overseas revenue, and amazon.co.uk is the top online retail site in the UK according to internet audience measurement firm Jupiter MMXI.
The good news will come as a welcome respite for the company, which has been beset by falling share price and speculation in the press over the company鈥檚 financial situation. Last month, a group of shareholders filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for the western district of Washington, claiming that Amazon had given false and misleading information about its finances.
