Amazon expands into kitchen gadgets and houseware

LONDON - Amazon.co.uk is expanding its UK offering to sell a range of kitchen and home products including Le Creuset saucepans, Gaggia coffee machines and the George Foreman Grill.

will offer a wide selection of home appliances, kitchen gadgets and personal items such as shavers and ear thermometers. Customers will have the opportunity to pre-order new items and receive special online offers.

Other brands featuring on the site are Braun, Kenwood and De'Longhi. Customers ordering from the site will get free delivery on orders over £39 within the UK, as they do with books, CDs and other items for sale.

Robin Terrell, managing director of Amazon.co.uk, said: "Kitchen and Home is a natural extension to our product lines in the UK. We are pleased to offer our customers a great selection of kitchen and home products at great prices, while providing them with a wealth of information so they can find exactly what they're looking for."

Amazon.co.uk already sells electronic equipment, DVDs, videos and software, along with its core offering of books and CDs.

It recently ran into controversy after two electronic personal organisers were accidentally advertised on the site for prices far lower than usual. The retailer decided not to honour sales, after thousands of people ordered the wrongly priced items in their dozens.

US sister site Amazon.com has recently expanded its range to include clothing.
