The venue made several successful arrests during last weekend’s Vans Warped UK tour. One man was arrested with 18 high-value phones hidden in tights worn under trousers.

It is now warning other venues and event-goers of the need for stealth theft vigilance.

According to Simon Fell, the venue’s head of operations, official statistics suggest pick pocketing has increased by 17% nationally in the past two years.

"We were alerted to this form of pick pocketing in the lead up to and during the London 2012 Olympics when the city seemed to experience an increase in these particular fast technique thefts, which victims often don't realise has even taken place," he explained.

"Following the successful apprehension of the pickpockets last weekend and the discovery of some of their methods, we are taking this opportunity to alert other venues to this," he added.

Both the venue and Police are encouraging ticket holders to make a note of their phone’s unique IMEI number, which can be obtained by pressing *#06# into the keypad.

They can then register these details for free via immobilise.com and enable a tracker facility to help locate and return the stolen phone.

Stephen Clayman detective superintendent of Haringey Police, said: "We will continue to work with local venues and their security staff and provide a police presence in the vicinity during concerts. We want fans to have a great time and not to have it ruined by theft. We are working with the management of local venues and The National Mobile Phone Crime Unit to identify and arrest those responsible."
