On 8 June 2009, the gates will open, signalling the start of the grass court season and the first ever , formerly Artois Championships. AEGON has taken over the sponsorship for British Tennis including the LTA and all their events.
Rafael Nadal became the latest Champion in 2008 with a fantastic victory over Novak Djokovic, breaking an eight year dominance by Andy Roddick and Leyton Hewitt. He joins the role of honor that includes tennis legends, John McEnroe and Boris Becker. It was Nadal’s first major victory on grass and clearly gave him confidence ahead of Wimbledon where he won in what was possibly the greatest final ever.
