
He succeeds Christopher Graham, who leaves to take the job of Information Commissioner.
Parker is currently the ASA's deputy director general and director of complaints and investigations. As part of his role he oversaw the handling of more than 25,000 complaints each year.
He is also an executive committee member of the European Advertising Standards Alliance (EASA). He will take up the new position 29 June
His focus will be how to approach regulation in difficult economic times while at the stame time taking into account technological advances and ensuring the ASA is ‘firm, fair and on the ball.'
