Adult channel Babeworld censured for explicit output

LONDON - Adult satellite channel Babeworld TV has been rapped by media regulator Ofcom for transmitting what the regulator described as 'explicit sexual content' before a midnight watershed on the free-to-air network.

The station was investigated after a viewer complaint that Babeworld had broadcast the programming content. However, the channel failed to supply a tape of the programming as evidence it was not at fault, because of "a technical failure" by the company administering the channel's compliance recordings.

Babeworld did acknowledge that some of the content aired on the channel was "too explicit" for the UK market and, as a result, it said it had changed its "production and editorial partners" and that output was now being produced to revised guidelines. The channel also said that it was producing its own compliance tapes and was no longer dependant on outside contractors.

Ofcom stated that it welcomed the steps that Babeworld had "taken to avoid any future failure to supply recordings."

The decision follows a similar reprimand for competitor adult satellite broadcaster Babestar TV last month, in which it transmitted a television ad for an adult channel, featuring women wearing underwear, lounging on a mattress and using sex toys.

The ad for Babestar.tv Live XXX, which appeared at 10pm, was broadcast on Look4Love TV, a digital unencrypted channel, and showed a young-looking woman with long blonde hair sucking a lollipop.

The voiceover said: "She's just 18, she is barely legal, if you like them young, take advantage of our young girls here at Babestar."

The ad used crude explicit language, referred to young girls and frequently claimed "we are live here until 5.30am and guys you can get through to any babe right now".
