Ads seeking homes for retired greyhounds anger OutRage!

LONDON - Efforts by a charity to rehouse retired racing greyhounds in the gay and lesbian community have been criticised by gay activists.

The Retired Greyhound Trust is running a £120,000 ad campaign in the national and gay and lesbian press. Trust director Ivor Stocker said the decision to advertise in the so-called "pink press" was "based on the knowledge that the gay and lesbian community provides a good source of homes for pets as many don't have or don't plan to have children".

However, a spokesman for gay rights group OutRage! said: "It is a weird mind that equates a dog with a child. You don't offer a childless couple a dog to replace the child they couldn't have."
