Acxiom opens Wakefield data centre to spur growth

LONDON - Acxiom has opened a new data centre near Wakefield, which will support its growth plans for Europe and provide faster processing.

The new White Rose Technology Centre will initially house around 50 staff employed in high-quality client services, consulting or technical roles. Acxiom plans to increase this number to almost 100 by 2006.

Acxiom's data store was significantly increased with last year's acquisitions of Claritas Europe and Consodata.

In its current development phase, the centre is initially capable of storing around 17 terabytes of data, which will be "quickly expanded", Acxiom said, to hundreds of terabytes.

Kevin Zaffaroni, Acxiom CEO for Europe, Asia and Australia, said that the new infrastructure will deliver significant cost and intelligence improvements.

"For example, a large job, which would previously take 29 days to run, is cut down to just two days," he said.

The centre was officially opened by Tom Riordan, executive director of strategy and policy at Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency for Yorkshire and Humber, which has been an Acxiom client for three years.
