Kirkland will be joining the Anglo-Australian magazine group following a number of years at IPC, where he was formerly publisher of Now and, before that, head of circulation at IPC Southbank.
Kirkland succeeds Jessica Burley, the chief operating officer of ACP-NatMag and launch publisher of Reveal, who has been appointed managing director of The National Magazine Company.
ACP-NatMag has also promoted Louise Court, its editor-in-chief, to be editorial director from January 1.
Colin Morrison, chief executive officer of ACP-NatMag, said: "I am delighted to have lured Andrew Kirkland away from IPC. He has first-class experience of weekly magazines and an energy and enthusiasm that will be great assets for our new company."
Kirkland will take up his post at ACP-NatMag at the beginning of 2006. The company's senior management team includes Sian Roberts, group ad sales director, and Zoe Harris, marketing director.
Kirkland said: "ACP-NatMag's determination to become a major player in the weekly magazine market creates a fantastic challenge and opportunity for me to be part of something special."
ACP-NatMag, launched earlier this year, is a 50:50 partnership between Australian Consolidated Press and The National Magazine Company. It publishes Best and the fastest-growing celebrity magazine Reveal, which has a weekly circulation of 348,893.
