He will now have responsibility for the UK titles published by the collaboration between The National Magazine Company and Australian Consolidated Press. This will include Best, Reveal and Real People, which is set for launch early next year.
Kirkland is leaving his job as acting publishing director of IPC Media's Now and Mizz magazines.
He succeeds Jessica Burley, the chief operating officer of ACP-Natmag who has been appointed managing director of Natmags.
Burley was appointed MD of Natmags at the end of November, taking some responsibility away from Duncan Edwards, who had the combined role of chief executive and managing director.
Both Burley and Kirkland are set to move into their new roles early next year.
Colin Morrison, chief xecutive Officer of ACP-NatMag, said: "I am delighted to have lured Andrew Kirkland away from IPC. He has first-class experience of weekly magazines and an energy and enthusiasm that will be great assets for our new company."
