The company has approached a number of undisclosed shops with a view to shortlisting six agencies to pitch for the business.
The successful agency will take responsibility for all of 118 118's digital advertising as well as some online strategy briefs.
The digital shop Altogether will continue to work on viral activity for the brand, an account it has worked on since Meme, the digital agency set up by WCRS, was handed the digital account for 118 118 following its launch in 2004.
Following the merger of Meme, Eyefall and DC Interact last year, the account was subsumed into Altogether, part of the Engine Group.
A spokesman for 118 118 said: "We are going through preliminary conversations with a number of agencies and we will be holding a pitch.
"This is a new brief for a new agency, which will take forward a significant part of our marketing activity, as we increase our focus on digital."
