Since 2007, the Organising Committee has spent £45.9 million on preperations, which is line with the expected total cost of £523.6 million to deliver the Games.

Work on key venues is underway, including the construction of the Scottish National Arena, the National Indoor Sports Arena, which is 63% complete, and accommodation for 6,500 athletes and officials at the Commonwealth Games Athletes' Village.

Nearly 80% of current contracts have been awarded to Scottish companies.

To mark the 1,000-day milestone, this morning Glasgow 2014 launched a competition with the BBC for a child to design the official Commonwealth Games mascot.

The prize is four tickets to the opening ceremony.
