The awards are decided by Nielsen Media Research's 10,000-strong consumer panel. Each time a member receives a DM piece, they rate it against five criteria: if it was opened; if the proposition was understood; if it appealed emotionally; if it left the reader with a positive feeling towards the brand; and if they would consider buying the product or service.
