Zenith Media has resigned the pounds 2 million media planning and
buying account for H. Samuel Jewellers, following differences in opinion
with its parent company, Signet.
It is likely that Zenith will also part company with Signet’s Ernest
Jones brand shortly. Sources indicate that Signet has been talking to
other agencies about its business, notably CIA Medianetwork. No-one at
Signet or CIA Medianetwork was available for comment.
Graham Duff, the chief executive of Zenith Media, said: ’We clearly have
a different view on professional business standards. It’s disappointing
given that we remained loyal to Signet during the difficult times it was
having as a company. We sadly have decided to part company.’
Signet, which advertises heavily in the press as well as using some TV
and radio advertising, concentrates the majority of its advertising in
the run-up to Christmas. The company has had a turbulent few years,
revamping its stores last September while emphasising its brand heritage
with the line, ’Creating special moments since 1862.’ Signet’s
relationship with the creative agency, Mortimer Whittaker O’Sullivan,
remains unchanged.
Zenith has worked on the Signet account since February 1995 when it won
the business for the rebranded Ratners group following a three-way pitch
against AMS and Total Media.
