Ringshall, who was made redundant from rival media shop Universal McCann in July as part of a cull of high-ranking executives due to the slump in advertising, starts his new job immediately. He will report directly to Zenith Media chief executive Steve King.
Ringshall was at Universal for four years and he most recently held the position of client services director for EMEA. Before that, he worked at Carat International and Dewe Rogerson.
King said: "We have recently strengthened our business development resources in Asia and the Americas. I am therefore delighted that we have been able to complete our global business development organisation with an individual of the experience and calibre as James."
Ringshall's predecessor Dobson announced in September he was joining online portal MSN to help drive up global advertising.
Zenith Media is owned by Publicis and Cordiant Communications.
"Despite the economic environment, we enjoyed a record performance in 2001. We are already benefiting from new opportunities as part of the newly created ZenithOptimedia Group. With our heightened competitiveness and the appointment of James, I believe we will be able to accelerate our growth," King said.
