Youth magazine to take advertising

Live, the free London-focused youth magazine, is to take ads for the first time from its November issue.

The issue will have print run of 35,000 and will be distributed in North and West London for the first time, in addition to its current South and East London distribution.

The magazine began life in South London in 2001, launched by social enterprise and youth communications agency, Livity.

It is created by young volunteer editorial staff, mentored by professional journalists and designers. It is published quarterly, aimed at 14- to 24-year-olds and is distributed via schools, colleges, youth centres and street teams.

It launched an East London issue last year, adding to its South London issue, but, in November, it will produce a single issue covering all of London. The issue will feature a lead interview with young East Londoner and rapper, Tinchy Stryder.

The move to take advertising is motivated in part by a desire to develop a new revenue stream to compensate for reductions in its funding by a London council.

The title is not currently ABC-audited, but is now looking into the possibility of getting an ABC certificate.

It has recruited an ad sales and business development manager, Andrea Gamson, who has previously worked in creative solutions at News International and at Emap Advertising, across titles such as Empire, Q and FHM.

Kiran Kaur, editor of Live East magazine, said: "The editors of Live feel strongly about the content of the magazine and we are passionate that what goes into it should be suitable for our readers.

"We don't want to bombard them with a concentration of adverts from one sector that represents a lifestyle that's unattainable. We want to be diverse and serve their varied lifestyles and preferences."
