Yahoo! UK & Ireland is to lose around seven per cent of its staff

as part of the portal's recent global cost-cutting strategy, according

to a spokeswoman at the portal.

Staff at the internet giant's UK & Ireland operations have yet to learn

of the total number of redundancies in their offices, but the

spokeswoman said the final figure would be significantly lower than the

12 per cent job cuts mooted for the rest of the firm's European

operations. Yahoo!'s European outlets, including Yahoo! UK & Ireland,

are estimated to employ around 400 staff.

It is believed that Yahoo! will continue to recruit staff in key areas,

despite the cutbacks.
