
The ex-Turner Broadcast System vice president for wireless and emerging technology will report to the boss of the Connected Life team in the US, Jim Schinella, but will be based in London.
The move comes as Yahoo! looks to create more links with leading telecoms groups in order to grow its mobile and broadband offering to users.
Lazar said: "I am excited to join such an incredible team of entrepreneurs changing the landscape of conventional mass media as we know it.
"I believe Yahoo! is in the best position to offer a uniquely creative environment suited to building new revenue streams through the distribution of our core assets to new media platforms in the home, in the office, and on the go.
Lazar spent 12 years at Turner and was most recently responsible for the company's global wireless strategy across the CNN, Cartoon Network and TCM brands.
"Building on my past success, I want to grow Yahoo's footprint as the leading destination for mobile and broadband users across Europe through key partnerships with mobile carriers, manufacturers and broadband providers."
